Sequel Pro is the fastest and best MySQL client for Mac right now. After a mini disaster yesterday involving Sequel Pro and filename extensions, I thought I’d checkout the competition.

So I did a quick check and downloaded a few other apps that would manage MySQL on a Mac with OS x -

  • MySQL Workbench
  • RazorSQL (not free so didn’t try)
  • Navicat

Both MySQL Workbench and Navicat are java based apps.  I’m sure they have their uses, in particular MySQL Workbench will allow you to reverse engineer your database structure as relationship model.

Yet it was the speed that a native app like Sequel Pro was able to connect and download table contents then the java based apps. So for now, there is nothing better for Mac then Sequel Pro.
