Studying for WSET Level 3 - supported by ChatGPT

As a Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) student, I understand the complexity and diversity of the world of wine. While WSET offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore this world, studying for the exams can be daunting. It requires a deep understanding of the subject matter and the ability to recall large amounts of information. Fortunately, I have found a powerful tool to assist me in my studies: ChatGPT.

What’s ChatGPT

Unless you’ve been buried under a rock, you’ll know ChatGPT is a large language model that can provide quick and easy access to information and insights on a wide range of topics related to wine and spirits. I can simply ask a question, and ChatGPT will provide me with a detailed and informative response that helps me better understand the subject matter and prepare for my exams.

How to include ChatGPT with your WSET3 Revision

Ask for help

For instance, I was struggling to understand the differences between Canopy Management and Trellising, so I asked ChatGPT for an explanation. It gave me a detailed breakdown of both, and explained why you need to get both right … helping me to better understand the nuances of each.

Exam Prep

1. Ask for Multi-Choice Quizzes

You can ask ChatGPT for multi choice quizz questions. There is a limit of about 10 questions in the free version of ChatGPT

I started by asking

and you can refine and ask for answers - but sometimes that broke ChatGPT and it didnt respond

Then I improved my question …

2. Ask for short-answer Questions

I also asked ChatGPT to help prepare me for the written test:

and then refined it to get challenging …

3. Check the Answers

Once you have your quiz or exam questions, you can refine ChatGPT and have it provide the answers.

Be aware that the ChatGPT is trained up to 2021 - so it doesnt know the latest WSET level 3 2022 edition book. But worse … sometimes it gets ’lazy’ and creates a question with a false answer, like this:

    a) The grape varieties used
    b) The region where they are produced
    c) The aging process
    d) The alcohol content

the ‘most’ correct answer would be b)

Overall, I have found ChatGPT to be a valuable tool in my WSET studies. With its ability to provide quick and easy access to information and insights on a wide range of topics, it helps me to better prepare for my exams and succeed in my studies.
